DescriptionA graduate of Urbana's University High School, Debevec leads the graphics laboratory at USC's Institute for Creative Technologies, helping develop the next generation of virtual reality. He is known for influential graphics research in the areas of image-based modeling and rendering, high dynamic range imaging, image-based lighting, and photoreal digital humans. Techniques from his work have been seen in movies such as The Matrix, Spider-Man 2, Superman Returns, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Avatar. In February 2010 he received an Academy Award for the design and engineering of the Light Stage systems for character relighting in motion pictures. This talk was recorded at TEDxUIUC 2010 (4/10/10), which was organized at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by a group of students led by Cristian Mitreanu. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
